Winter Weather
The weather is changing and all students should come dressed for an outdoor recess. The playground can be a chilly and windy place even on days with lots of sunshine! If your child is in need and you could use a helping hand, please contact the School Nurse.
School Nurses are always available to parents with questions and as a resource on a variety of topics. The nurses that assist students at AEEP are Mrs. Griffin, RN,and Mrs. LaPointe, RN. They may be reached by calling the preschool at 781-982-2195—we will connect you with their office in the clinic.

Out of District and Early Education Program Coordinator
The Abington Public Schools has posted and is searching for an Out of District and Early Education Program Coordinator. We are seeking three parents to serve on the screening committee.

Dear Abington Early Education Program Parents and Caregivers,
 I am writing to inform you that the Director of the AEEP, Ms. Lora Monachino, is leaving us to pursue other interests. The time she has spent in Abington is sincerely appreciated and she is wished great success in all her future endeavors.
In the coming days and weeks, we will be advertising and putting together a small screening committee to find a replacement. While this process takes place, if you are in need of anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to the AEEP Main Office. AEEP Extended Program Hours
Thank you for all your cooperation as we've

In anticipation of tomorrow's first day of school, please see the following guide for classroom locations and entrances to the building.
Students in first floor classrooms (Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Eddy, Mrs. Dailey, Ms. Patterson) should use the bus port entrance for the quickest route to their classroom.

Abington High School Schedules
Abington High School student schedules are now available on Aspen Parent Portal. To access this information please go to www.abingtonps.org. Click staff and parent portal logon. Student/Parent usernames and passwords are the same as last year. These usernames/passwords are also the same that students use to log in to their laptops. If you have any questions, please call the guidance department at 781-982-2165.
Due to the multiple and unique complexities with our school schedule under COVID guidelines, we will not be able to process schedule change requests. Our school counselors continue to be hard at work making all the adjustments and modifications needed for the start of school, and will be able to meet with students about schedule concerns on a limited basis when they return.

Yesterday an email was sent regarding cohort assignments and grade 5-12 families being able to access their cohort information in the Aspen portal. Yesterday's email contained a small error in the Aspen portal address, which has been corrected below. Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion.
  • Families in grades 5-12 can find their cohort placement within the Aspen X2 Parent Portal. To access the portal, click the following link: https://ma-abington.myfollett.com/aspen/logon.do 
  • After logging in (using the same username and password students use to login to school computers), click the My Info top tab and your cohort assignment will be the last entry on the page, at the bottom of the second column. If you and your student do not know your log on information, please contact the AMS or AHS office.

Each year the South Shore league recognizes one school as the overall Sportsmanship winner. Coaches of each varsity sport select the top programs based on sportsmanship using a rubric to guide them at the conclusion of each season. Important Reminder
It is critical that you park in the parking lot and walk your student to the
building at drop off and pick up. There is to be no parking or idling in the driveway or van areas. This is a safety concern as well as a directive from the Fire Department. Please see the front desk with any questions or concerns.
Cold and Flu Season
In an effort to keep everyone as healthy as possible this cold and flu season, we thought we’d ask for your help in reinforcing the information we are providing in school to our students. One of the most important actions to avoid getting sick and spreading germs is to cough and sneeze into your elbow and wash your hands frequently with soap and water.  Please help us and encourage your student/s to do both.

School may be canceled because of inclement weather. As always, parents are reminded to use discretion in sending their children to school during inclement weather.

Delayed Opening
School opening may be delayed by two (2) hours when weather conditions may cause traveling delays (notification by radio, the same as no school announcements). AM Pre-school sessions will not be conducted when openings are delayed.

Abington High School Athletic Hall of Fame The AHS Athletic Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for inductees. We seek to honor AHS teams, players, coaches, administrators and community members who, by their demonstrated excellence on or off the field, have contributed to the growth and/or success of the athletic program at Abington High School. Nomination forms are available on the athletic web site page on the Abington Public Schools web site. REMINDER - Abington Middle School hours are from 7:50 AM to 2:22 PM. Students who are not in their homeroom by 7:50 AM are considered tardy. Parents who are dropping students off at Door 10 in the morning should plan to arrive at least 3 to 5 minutes before 7:50 AM. in order for them to make it to their homeroom on time.

Attendance & Loss of Credit Due to Unexcused Absences - AHS

Students are allowed 3 unexcused absences per term in meeting our school wide expectations.  A student who accumulates more than 6 unexcused absences in a semester will fail all ½ year credited courses or any class and will receive an attendance failure and an “AF” (attendance failure) on the report card. Woodsdale Drop Off/Pick Up 2019 For parents dropping off in the morning, students can be dropped off starting at 8:20AM. Please follow the traffic line, pulling up to the curb as you drop off, and please pull as far forward as you can (there is a sign marking where the dropoff zone begins and ends). At afternoon dismissal, walkers/parent pick up students will be dismissed together through the front door. Parents are encouraged to park and meet their students on the curb. We will assist with crossing to the far side of the parking lot. Mr. Hawes and staff will be at the curb for both drop off and dismissal, should you need their help

AHS/AMS/AEEP Clean Energy
The Abington Public Schools is currently utilizing a 29,824 square foot panel array located on the rooftop of the new AMS|AHS|AEEP Building at 201 Gliniewicz Way. The solar array will provide up to 585,000 kWh of clean energy annually and is expected to save the district $40,000 per year in electricity costs. Learn more here...

Textile Recycling

Abington Public Schools continues its partnership with Bay State Tex-tiles to bring textile recycle bins into every public schoolyard in town. The white recycle bins are available 24/7 and proceeds from the collection of textiles benefit  the Parent Teacher Organization of that school. Bay State Tex-tiles offers a  $100 per ton rebate on textiles collected. Donate your unwanted textiles to support the schools.  We accept the good, the bad and the ugly! Donated items are accepted in any condition as long as they are clean and dry.
