Special Feature: What is a Mid-Term Progress Note?

Students in grades 1-2 took home mid-term progress notes on Friday, October 13, 2017. These notes focus on reading, math, and work habits. We sent the notes home so you can have a glimpse of where your child is performing in the first six weeks of school. Oral reading fluency and nonsense word fluency are skills we assessed in the first few weeks. Oral reading fluency is the ability to read so it sounds like a conversation and the student understands what is being read because he/she is not stopping a lot to figure out words. Nonsense word fluency is using phonics (sound/letter combinations) to pronounce words demonstrating they can use phonics when they come to an unknown word, without guessing.
